Dr. James K. Waldsmith has owned and operated The Equine Center since 1985. Dr. Waldsmith obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1982. Prior to The Equine Center, Dr. Waldsmith worked at two mixed practices in Michigan and was the resident veterinarian at two large Arabian farms on the Central Coast of California.
His professional interests are thermography, sports medicine, rehabilitation, reproduction and preventive medicine. He has made presentations on these subjects as well as some on practice management strategies to the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Equine Sports Medicine. Dr. Waldsmith is board certified in veterinary thermography and a past member of the AAEP’s Task Force on client education and has been a facilitator of the Therapeutic Options Forum.
Dr. Waldsmith is an F.E.I. certified veterinarian in three-day eventing, dressage, show jumping, vaulting and reining. He also regularly participates in advanced training events conducted by the International Society for Equine Locomotor Pathology (I.S.E.L.P) and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP).
Outside of The Equine Center, he is president of Vetel Diagnostics Inc., which provides digital imaging and software for the veterinary community, and a consultant to Prisma Imaging which is producing robotic Computed Tomosynthesis (CT) systems for use on horses and other large animals.
